Instructor Bio:

Sewing has become a lost art, but doesn’t have to be tedious, frustrating or time-consuming. Judi’s goal is to make sewing accessible, creative and fun with her Guerilla techniques. She teaches sewing without patterns and shortcuts for quick results, in a casual, non-intimidating hands-on class. Judi has been a costume designer for 25 years, and has studied theatrical costume design and worked with professional designers. Her own line, Cinder Garden Designs, features Upcycled Steampunk Burning Man clothing.

Upcycled Fingerless Mitten Workshop

Location: Arts Benicia Classroom

Make cozy, stylish kitschy fingerless mittens out of old sweaters. This class is for beginning and intermediate students, to include basics of hand-sewing. Students should bring and old sweater to cut up (the fluffier the better), fleece and thin colorful yarns.

Upcycled Guerilla Sewing

Location: Arts Benicia Classroom

Guerilla Sewing is the quick and easy way, including basics in sewing machines, sergers, hand-sewing, fabric, mending and alterations. Learn how to make garments without patterns with upcycled materials. Learn shortcuts, tricks and designer secrets with professional results. Sewing machines are provided but students are encouraged to bring their own if they have one. Students should bring a project with fabric and a garment to copy or alter.
